U.S. Glass Open Work Pieces
The term "open work" was used by U.S. Glass to describe pieces that had openings (holes or slits) in the rim. The stretch glass pieces with this effect are identified as #310 open work and the #8076 open work lines. The 310 pieces have the characteristic four sets of rays on the exterior, but the open work pieces have wide rims that are filled with diamond-shaped openings. These are usually found on a comport which may be shaped into a fan vase, a low footed bowl, and a bowl. The #8076 bowl is commonly called "ribbon bowls," supposedly because pieces have been found with a flat cloth ribbon threaded through the open work slits. This bowl ranges from a flat plate to a pulled up form. Flat rims and rolled rims are the most common. Two sizes of this ribbon bowl are known, but the larger one is the most common.
